Eliphaz Accuses Job and Urges Repentance

Job 22:1-30

22
Chapter 22
1 Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said: 2 Can God profit? Can a man profit from him—a wise one? 3 Is it a delight to Shaddai if you justify yourself? Does he gain if you make your ways innocent? 4 Will he reprove you because of your fear of him? Will he come into judgment with you? 5 Is not your moral evil great, and is there no end to your iniquities? 6 For you have pledged your brother for nothing, and you have stripped off the garments of naked ones. 7 You do not give the thirsty water to drink, and you withhold bread from the hungry. 8 And a man of arm to him the earth, and a bearer of face dwelt in it. 9 You sent away widows empty-handed, and the arms of orphans are crushed. 10 Therefore snares are all around you, and fear has suddenly terrified you. 11 Or do you not see the darkness, and a flood of waters covers you. 12 Is not God high in the heavens? Does he not see the highest of the stars, for they are high? 13 And you say, "What does God know? He judges from beyond the darkness." 14 Thick clouds hide him, so he does not see; and he walks about the circle of the heavens. 15 Will you keep to the old way which men of iniquity have perished? 16 who did not gather up time. The river pours out their foundation. 17 The ones saying to God, "Turn away from us," and "What will Shaddai do to them?" 18 And he filled their houses with good, but the counsel of the wicked is far from me. 19 The righteous will see and rejoice, and the innocent will mock them. 20 "If not—our standing was wiped out, and their remnant fire consumed." 21 Please make yourself safe with him and make peace with him—your harvest will be good. 22 Please take the Torah from his mouth, and place his words in your heart. 23 If you return to Shaddai, you will be built up; you will remove injustice from your tent. 24 and put dust on Bezer, and streams of Ophir in the rock. 25 And Shaddai will be your gold, silver in abundance for you. 26 For then you will delight yourself in Shaddai, and you will lift your face to Elōah. 27 You will entreat him and he will hear you, and you will fulfill your vows. 28 And you will decree a word, and it will stand for you, and light will shine on your ways. 29 For when they have humbled themselves, and you say, "Pride," he will bow his eyes—he will be saved. 30 He will deliver the innocent, and he will be delivered by the purity of your hands.
